Arcata – Humboldt State University says an audit by an independent firm found no wrong doing in an alleged embezzlement of scholarship funds at the university.
A former News Information Director, Danny Pambianco filed a lawsuit charging Athletic Director, Dan Collen and Associate Director of External Affairs, Tom Trepiak of unlawfully receiving money and using scholarship and donation funds for personal use or lavish business trips. Because of the public nature of the claims, an independent auditing firm, Clifton, Larson, Allen LLP of Bellevue, Washington was hired by HSU to do an extensive review.
The firm found that procedures for awarding and dispersing scholarships were appropriate and that the departments of athletic budgeting processes were strong, that funds were dispersed properly and appropriately monitored. Cash receipts and travel were pre-approved and documented. The findings reinforce the university’s position that the allegations were without merit.
News Channel 3 talked with Dan Pambianco who now works in the HSU Marketing Department. He said the truth has yet to be told and questioned the audit. His lawsuit continues with a progress hearing on March 17th.
