ARCATA- If you still have some lingering holiday materials around your home, a local organization is looking for them.
SCRAP Humboldt will be holding its second annual Post Holiday Waste Collection tomorrow. People looking to do away with wrapping papers, ribbons, gift bags and other scrap goods can show up to SCRAP Humboldt on H Street between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in order to donate. There are a few exceptions however. They tell us they will not be accepting Christmas trees or moldy, dirty or broken items. But organizers say last year’s Post Holiday Waste Collection saved 300 pounds of materials from being buried in landfills. They believe the event helps the economy as well as the environment.
"So these materials that we get are still usable and we offer them at a low cost to the community, which helps a lot of teachers, it helps a lot of artists, it helps small business, because people can come here and buy goods that are discounted," said Tibora Girczyc-Blum, the Director of SCRAP Humboldt.
