HSU student with meningitis expected to leave hospital
ARCATA- A Humboldt State University student diagnosed with bacterial meningitis was expected to be released from a Redding Hospital Monday.
The university has not received any additional reports of the disease. Officials said one sick student did call the health center over the weekend, but did not have the disease.
The student with meningitis lives in Sunset Residence Hall. Students living on the first floor have been advised to be treated as a precaution. Monday was the final day the university offered the preventative prescription for the antibiotic.
University officials said they are happy the student is recovering, he will return to his home, not to the university to recover.
Humboldt State does not require students to have the meningitis vaccination. Officials said they have not had a case in over a decade.
