HSU's Telonicher Marine Lab modernizes facility
TRINIDAD – Changes are coming to HSU’s marine lab. Thanks to a grant from the National Science Foundation the Trinidad-based science lab will replace water tanks that were built out of redwood in 1965.
The Foundation granted more than $340,000 to upgrade the running seawater system. That seawater provides the base component for research at the facility.
Two new water tanks will be placed underground. This means greater redundancy, improved earthquake safety and more room for future expansion.
Students from kindergarten to grad-school use the marine lab to study everything from intertidal ecology and fisheries biology to invasive species and climate change.
