Human remains found at Humboldt Redwoods State Park
Human remains were found in Humboldt Redwoods State Park on Sunday, after being discovered by a hiker.
The hiker found skeletal remains on a trail in the Cuneo Creek Campground on Sunday at about 7:30 a.m. The hiker then contacted a Park Ranger, who confirmed the remains were human. A deputy coroner and two detectives with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and also confirmed the remains were human.
"At this point, our knowledge on how those remains got there is limited. We don't know the age, sex, how the person died, it's very early in the investigation. My understanding is the coroner's office is going to have to use a forensic anthropologist to determine the age and sex and identification of the deceased, and will also be trying to determine the cause of death," said Lt. Steve Knight with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251.
