EUREKA- For the first time in two months the unemployment rate in Humboldt County is up by half a percentage point, with a jobless rate at 9 percent. The total Humboldt industry employment has declined by 1,400 jobs between June and July. The Employment Development Department says this is because schools were cutting back for summer break. However, compared to last year the jobless rate is down 2.1 percent. One-year ago today the unemployment rate was sitting in the doubled digits at 11.1 percent. In addition Humboldt County is seeing a decrease in jobs in the leisure and hospitality industry. Some of the industries that have seen growth include private education and health services.
