Humboldt County officials looking into high-use energy tax
NORTH COAST- Pacific Gas and Electric and the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors are looking into a high-energy use tax in the unincorporated areas of the county. On Tuesday, supervisors directed staff to sign an agreement with PG&E to provide data on the number of customers who exceed 600 percent of baseline energy use. The decision was made in response to Arcata's new electricity tax that targets illegal indoor marijuana growers to either move out of the area or pay for their large amounts of energy consumption come next fall. County officials say it is the first step toward a high energy use tax but need the data ^first to determine the next step.
