Humboldt County Post Election Update to be released on Friday
HUMBOLDT COUNTY- Some candidates in Humboldt County are playing the waiting game, but the end is in sight. According to the Elections Office, election results in a report that will be released on Friday will most likely be the same as the official results.
The Post Election Update includes all of the counted ballots, but a canvassing must be done before the results become official. Canvassing is when certain precincts are randomly recounted to ensure votes are accurate. Some of the close races to watch are incumbent 3rd ward Eureka City Council Member Mike Newman, who has 51 percent of the vote. He is going against challenger Kim Bergel, who is at 49 percent. The $50 million school bond measure for Eureka City Schools, Measure S, needs 55 percent of votes to pass and is currently at 55.8 percent. Measure Y, the $2.5 million bond measure for the Jacoby Creek School District, is currently just a handful of votes shy of passing. We’ll update you on those results on Friday.
