EUREKA - Nearly 100 people came out to the Humboldt Senior Resource Center for a service to honor veterans.
The resource center invited the Mad River Community Veteran's Honor Guard. They performed a military honor service where they fold and present a flag and a played Taps on the bugle.
The ceremony is typically performed at a military funeral but is performed as a way of honoring veterans as well.
In the Resource Center, there are a number of veterans, apparent in the crowd Tuesday. The event was held just before lunch in the Resource’s Dining Center and was open to the public.
"We were asked to honor all the veterans, many of the people that come and use the services here at the Senior Resource Center are veterans and so they wanted a nice program so this is something that we do on a regular basis. And we decided to include our regular ceremony in their ceremony and give some more meaning to what Veterans Day really is,” Allan Dollision, from the Mad River Community Veterans Honor Guard, said.
