Humboldt State University vigil to commemorate bus accident victims
ARCATA - Just one year ago Friday, a tragic bus accident occurred and affected the lives of many at Humboldt State University and the community.
Ten victims lost their lives in the I-5 charter bus accident near Orland. Following the accident, over 600 donors made contributions in memory of those victims and HSU was able to grant 24 scholarships to survivors. In honor and recognition of both the victims and survivors, HSU will host a commemorate vigil and introduce a dedication plaque at Founders Hall Friday night at 5pm.
"We lost one of our own staff members, we lost two alumni in that accident and all of them have connections to the university and the broader community. So it's very important that all of us get back together. We're still mourning their loss and trying to move forward, continue to move forward from that loss. So it's critical that we get to spend some time together remembering them," said Peg Blake, HSU Vice President of Student Affairs.
