BLUE LAKE - Mad River Alliance is teaming up with California Trout this year for the Second Annual Humboldt Steelhead Days.
It's a celebration of steelhead spawned in the cold clean waters of Northern California. Saturday is Family Fun Day and will kick off the first day of the two-week-long event. Steelhead Days boasts several fishing involved activities, but the one that draws out the crowds is The Mad and Eel River Fishing Contest. That competition will start at 7am and continue through February 7th when prizes and awards will be given. The event will also host the International Fly Fishing Film Festival and a presentation of salmon and steelhead in the Eel River.
"We say, because it’s an opportunity for us to educate the general population about catching and releasing wild steelhead and keeping your hatchery catch, to help keep wild steelhead wild," said, Mary Burke, Project Coordinator for California Trout.
The event runs from January 24th through February 7th.
