International kayaking event underway in Trinidad
TRINIDAD- Kayakers and kayaking instructors from all over the world are in Trinidad over the next three days for the Storm Gathering USA Symposium.
The event has been held in Wales, Scotland and England in the past, but this marks the first time the symposium has been in the United States. The company Greenland Or Bust is presenting the event, which features 13 instructors and about 60 participants from around the globe. Classes range from launching and landing in surf zones to rough water boat handling. The three-day event, which ends Sunday, also includes special presentations including a U.S. Coast Guard flyover and mock rescue on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. off of Trinidad State Beach.
"One of the things that's really neat is having people come from all over the world to our community and we get to show it off and we get to show people how great it is here," said Helen Tozer, a Co-Owner of Greenland Or Bust.
"It collects a lot of different skill levels of instructors and gives you some options of what you want to learn on a long weekend and it is just a long weekend and it's not that hard to get to on a ten hour drive. It's not that unreasonable. So easy to get to, beautiful place and wonderful instructors. What more could you ask for?" said Alison Reinbold, who lives in Washington.
