Kiwanis Club hosts annual Business Women’s Luncheon
FORTUNA - It is National Business Women’s week and the Fortuna Kiwanis Club held the 17 annual lunch Wednesday to honor women in the work world.
More than 300 people turned out for the luncheon held at the Fortuna River Lodge. The event discussed goals for small businesses in Fortuna, celebrated outstanding businesswomen and featured some great super man and woman costumes! The Kiwanis Club also awarded its “Family of the Year Award” to the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department and Fortuna Fire Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition, the event is a fundraiser. Thirty businesses in the Eel River Valley sponsored tables at the event and attendees could participate in a raffle. All money raised Wednesday goes toward college scholarships for women.
“It's a positive affirmation on the women who are doing stuff. Not just a successful business woman, but there are women in here that volunteer thousands of hours of volunteer time in addition to running successful businesses and families and being a soccer mom. I mean it just goes on and on. And Kiwanis feels like it's important to recognize the women in business,” Don Brown, a Kiwanis Club Member and the event emcee, said.
