EUREKA - An anonymous donor has given the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department nearly $10,000 for needed equipment.
Sheriff Mike Downey announced that the donation came in the form of a check Thursday. The donor reportedly heard the Sheriff’s Office was in need of additional tasers for the patrol division and a $9,600 check was delivered. This will allow the department to acquire an additional 8 tasers.
Authorities say the taser is one of the safest and most effective tools in modern police work. It allows deputies another option when dealing with violent and resistive suspects and minimizes injuries to the suspects and deputies.
