SAMOA- The Crimson Polaris arrived Monday to the Humboldt Bay chip dock to be loaded with woodchips.
The ship will be taking the chips to China as part of the first international trade out of Humboldt Bay in years. The facility is owned by the Green Diamond Resource Company and was closed in 2012 for upgrades.
Officials say that loading the ship with woodchips will take up to four days to complete. The shipment is one of three this year going to Asia.
Officials say that the increased activity in the harbor will help stimulate local economy. In total, the loading project itself has added ten jobs at the site.
