League of Women Voters of Humboldt County holds luncheon fundraiser
HUMBOLDT COUNTY- The volunteer organization dedicated to encouraging informed and active participation in government, the League of Women Voters of Humboldt County, held their 23rd annual State of the Community Luncheon Fundraiser on Friday.
More than 100 community members from throughout Humboldt County attended the luncheon. This is the organization’s major fundraiser for the year. At the luncheon, two people or organizations are honored every year by the League of Women Voters of Humboldt County for a significant contribution they make to the well-being of the community. This year, former Humboldt County Board of Supervisors member Jimmy Smith was honored for promoting a civil understanding of some of the issues facing Humboldt County. The volunteer organization CASA of Humboldt County, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, also received an honor for their role in helping children who have been abused or neglected.
"We are never at a loss to find volunteers who have contributed significantly to the community. We always have more people suggested for this. We take nominees from throughout the county. We always have many more than we can recognize. So it's great that we can remember that we have so many good people here," said Sharolyn Hutton, the President of the League of Women Voters of Humboldt County.
