Local businesses encouraged to stop distributing single use plastic bags
EUREKA- The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors is turning to local businesses to bring an end to single use plastic bags.
On Tuesday the board motioned to draft a resolution encouraging the business community to voluntarily stop distributing single use plastic bags. Instead of mandating a ban, the board wanted to leave innovation up to the people to create a program eliminating the use locally.
Last July the board voted to create an ordinance banning plastic bags pending state legislation. Now that a state ban has been passed, but put on hold.. The supervisors have also put their ordinance on hold. They hope the voluntary efforts will successfully eliminate the need for a local ban.
