Local fire agencies aiding CalFire during wildfire season
FORTUNA- As wildfires continue to rage throughout the north coast, here at home the Humboldt-Del Norte CalFire Unit is counting on local fire agencies while their resources are helping battle those large fires.
According to the state resource agency, the unit is experiencing significant draw downs of resources due the wildfires throughout Northern California. However, officials with the unit say that thanks to a cooperating agreement and shared communication with local fire agencies, CalFire has been able to continue meeting their state goal of keeping 95 percent of fires to 10 acres or less.
“Even with significant draw downs, we also have aircraft that we have that are under agreement that will come and support our initial attack resources,” said Mark Rodgers, Battalion chief, Humboldt-Del Norte CalFire. “It’s paramount that this agency always maintains initial attack resource capacity even with significant draw downs with large fires throughout the state.”
And some of those CalFire resources are battling the beaver fire north of highway 96 in Siskiyou County. That fire is nearing 1,700 acres and was 5 percent contained as of Thursday morning. Also nearby, the lodge lighting complex fire near Laytonville in Mendocino County is at 4,600 and is 25 percent contained.
