Local officials deliver meals to seniors
EUREKA- The Humboldt Senior Resource Center is celebrating March for Meals.
It's part of the center's Meals on Wheels Program that home delivers meals daily to Humboldt County seniors 60 years and older. The entire month of March is a time of awareness for the program, with local elected officials and funders helping deliver meals to 160 seniors from McKinleyville to Fortuna, many of which are unable to prepare or shop for food on their own.
"Many of these individuals don't have that capability," Michael Blackwell, nutrition and activities manager at the Humboldt Senior Resource Center said. "They don't have the capability or maybe have forgotten to cook or never have energy to cook too so this program allows us to be able to get those people and serve them when they're unable to help themselves."
To sign up for home delivered meals, email firstname.lastname@example.org. The center is always looking for donations toward the program and volunteer drivers are also needed.
