Longest running member of Rotary Club of Eureka honored
EUREKA- The most senior Rotarian at the Rotary Club of Eureka, Jim Howard, was honored at Monday’s Rotary Club Meeting.
Jim Howard has been a member of the Rotary Club of Eureka since 1973. The 98-year-old Rotarian has raised more than $160,000 for the Humboldt County Office of Education for the Eureka Rotary Science Fair during that time. Howard has also been a business owner and served on the Eureka City Council for 18 years. On Monday, he was honored by state and local representatives at the Rotary Club Meeting. The Spangler Raffle, which Howard used to raise money for the Humboldt County Office of Education, was officially renamed on Monday, and will now be known as the Spangler-Howard Raffle.
"His common sense approach and advice has just been very valuable to a lot of people that have even been in politics over the years. Jim, when he was on the city council, was just kind of a steady rock up there, with a common sense approach to solving problems and working with other council members, he's a great guy,” said Mayor Frank Jager, the Mayor of the City of Eureka.
