An Arcata man and his daughter were taken to the hospital after swerving off the road and crashing into a grove of trees Tuesday.
The California Highway Patrol said just before five this evening, thirty year-old Patrick Rex was driving his Toyota 4-Runner just north of the Sunset exit on highway 101 near Humboldt State University, when he allegedly turned around to say something to his six year-old daughter who was sitting in her booster seat.
His vehicle swerved off the road and hit head-on into a grove of trees. Rex suffered major head injuries and was transported to Mad River Community Hospital. His daughter suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by an officer of the CHP but later released to family members. Authorities say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
