Man arrested in Eureka after allegedly assaulting girlfriend
EUREKA- A Eureka man is arrested after allegedly biting his girlfriend and lighting her on fire.
Police responded to the 600 block of Alpha Street at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday. A 39-year-old woman reported her boyfriend, 50-year-old William Johns, had just assaulted her. The victim told police Johns had been using drugs and alcohol, entered the bathroom and lit her clothes on fire. She was able to put it out with her hand. Johns allegedly said he would burn her to death. He then bit her on the stomach and fled the residence. The victim did not require medical attention for her injuries.
Authorities learned Johns is currently on felony formal probation for domestic violence. He’s being held in the Humboldt County Jail without bail. He was taken into custody by a Humboldt County Probation Officer at about 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
