Man convicted of killing horse with crossbow sentenced
EUREKA- The sentencing for Joshua Slater, the man who pled “no contest” to killing a horse with a crossbow in Alton back in April, was sentenced on Friday.
The judge sentenced Slater to five years of supervised felony probation because he said that would keep Slater under supervision longer than the other possible sentences. Some of the conditions of Slater’s probation are that he can not own or possess a firearm or any deadly weapon as well as any ammo. Slater will also have to undergo a mental health assessment, and cannot be within 100 yards of the residence where he shot the horse. In addition, he cannot own, possess or care for any animal. If he violates any of those terms, he could serve up to three years at the Humboldt County jail.
