On Friday, August 1 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. there will be training scenarios taking place near Commercial and 4th streets in Eureka. The scenarios are part of the College of the Redwoods Crime Scene Investigators Course:    

Man Crashes SUV after breaks fail

A man was sent to the hospital with moderate injuries after his brakes gave out and his SUV crashed into a grove of trees.

A little before 7 this evening, CHP said a man and his 15-year old passenger were testing their brakes after working on the vehicle. They were driving down Ridgewood Drive in Cutten when the driver tried to slow to a stop, The brakes went out completely. The vehicle went down the very steep end of Ridgewood Drive and flipped over into a gulch and grove of trees. The driver was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with moderate injuries. His 15-year-old passenger was able to walk away with minor injuries. The accident is still under investigation.
