Man in custody after allegedly robbing woman on sidewalk in Fortuna
FORTUNA- A Fortuna man is in custody after allegedly attacking a woman and stealing her laptop in Fortuna.
Thirty-five year old Christopher Crowl allegedly demanded a laptop from a 48-year-old woman who was walking on the sidewalk at the corner of Fortuna Boulevard and Smith Lane on Saturday just before 8 p.m. Police say when the woman told him “no,” he hit her over the head, which knocked her to the ground. It was then police say the man stole her laptop and the bag she was carrying it in. Officials say the woman then called police and told them the man was riding a bicycle northbound on Fortuna Boulevard. Police then found Crowl 15 minutes later in front of Ray’s Food Place on Fortuna Boulevard, with the laptop, and items from Ray’s Food Place that had not been purchased. Crowl is currently being held in the Humboldt County Jail for robbery, theft, and violation of his probation.
"We take this type of violent felony, which is what this is, very seriously here in Fortuna. We were on this call and within 15 minutes of the call coming in we had someone in custody. I know I take it very seriously and we're not going to allow this type of thing in Fortuna and we're going to make Fortuna is a safe, enjoyable community for all of our residents," said Chief Bill Dobberstein of the Fortuna Police Department.
