EUREKA- One man is in custody after police say he led them on a nearly hour long search through a Eureka neighborhood.
Police say 30-year-old Nicholas Kistler was seen walking at the intersection of West Simpson and Pine Streets shortly before 7:40 a.m., and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
When police attempted to speak with the man, they say he fled, and was then caught by an officer. Officials say the officer struggled with the suspect. Kistler was able to break free and flee again, and dropped a hunting knife while running away. After a perimeter was set up with officers and a K-9 unit, they found Kistler under a nearby residence. He had a slungshot on him when he was apprehended.
He was taken into custody for multiple charges including possession of an illegal weapon, felony carrying of a concealed weapon and violation of probation.
He was treated at Saint Joseph Hospital for minor injuries before being booked into the Humboldt County Jail.
