Man With Four Warrants Strikes Deputies, Chase Ensues

LOLETA – A man with four outstanding warrants is arrested, but not without putting up a fight.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence on Bowie Road in Loleta for report of a custody dispute Sunday just after 5PM.

There, deputies found Steven Martinez, sitting with a child in his lap outside the home.

He was told to hand over the child and when deputies tried to arrest him he ran inside and slammed the door.

When deputies got inside, Martinez struck one of them in the face and shoved another before fleeing out the back door.

He led deputies on a chase to a neighbor’s garage, where they tased him and took him in to custody.

Martinez was booked into the Humboldt County Jail for Battery of a Peace Officer on top of his four warrants.

His bail is set at $60,000.
