Man wanted for allegedly leading authorities on vehicle pursuit through Eureka
EUREKA- Authorities are searching for a suspect that led police on a vehicle pursuit through Eureka.
On Tuesday night, just before 5:30 p.m., the Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit was investigating a house on the 800 block of O Street. Officers noticed a blue van parked nearby. The vehicle fled when officers attempted to contact the driver. Police say the driver is 34-year-old Eureka resident John Ellis. They say Ellis reached speeds of 55 miles per hour during the pursuit. After the chase was called off, officers discovered Ellis’ van near Myrtle and Pennsylvania Avenues. Ellis is wanted for felony evading and driving on a suspended license, in addition to two other outstanding felony warrants. EPD officials say the pursuit was called off due to public safety concerns.
"The driver was spotted near the area of Henderson Center, and the officer attempted to deploy the spike strips and the driver was able to avoid them. The driver then continued through town and began driving the wrong way on a one way, H Street. At that time, the officers decided to call off the pursuit. Driving the wrong way on a one way is extremely dangerous. The officers had the citizens' safety in mind," said Brittany Kesterson, the Public Information Officer with the Eureka Police Department.
If you have any information about this case, you are asked to call the Eureka Police Department at (707) 441-4060.
