Management meets with Plaza Point residents in response to concerns and complaints
ARCATA- Plaza Point residents claim they have been threatened with unfair evictions and that property managers have not responded to their concerns. In response to their growing complaints management met with residents on Wednesday.
On Feb. 19th, several residents attended the Arcata City Council meeting and spoke about their fears of being evicted from the affordable housing apartment managed by AWI and owned by DANCO. Those that spoke told the council about their growing frustration with property managers not responding to their complaints or letters.
At the meeting, Regional Property Manager Loretta Miller, said mistakes had been made. Miller said the meeting was to address residents concerns and then look to address them.
"I feel better," said Kate Kirsten who has lived at Plaza Point for two years, since it opened in June 2013.
Residents were concerned over letters they had received from property management that described lease violations filed against them. Some tenants were concerned over safety procedures and repairs that needed to be made to the building.
Michael Burke, Vice President of AWI said on the phone that he had made an effort to respond to every letter. He said he would take a look at all the issues tenants brought up at the meeting and address them. Burke said he would work with property owners, DANCO, to make the repairs to the building.
