Man's body discovered next to Highway 101 near Loleta
LOLETA- A man's body was discovered Monday morning near Loleta but authorities say they do not suspect foul play was involved.
The body was discovered 200 yards away from the Singley Hill Road exit on Highway 101. A passerby found the man laying beside the roadway on the east side of the northbound lanes. The California Highway Patrol was the first on scene.
The Humboldt County Coroner did not find signs of trauma or evidence of foul play. The sheriff's office says it could be natural causes or a drug overdose. An autopsy on Thursday will confirm his cause of death. The man is in his forties and is from the area, but authorities are withholding his name until next of kin is notified.
"There's a lot of deaths in the county of Humboldt or any other county," Lt. Wayne Hanson with the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said. "I think it's almost a daily thing, not on the side of the road, but it happens. I know six to eight months ago in Singley Hill Area there was another dead body found up there and that was a drug overdose so it does happen. It's not something that happens every day but it does happen several times a year."
Will lowering the speed limit in Eureka make roads more safe?
