MCKINLEYVILLE - After 13 years of working for the McKinleyville Union School District, Superintendent Michael Davies-Hughes will soon be making the move to Eureka.

Starting July 1st, Davies-Hughes will become the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services at Eureka City Schools. He will oversee all educational programs and help implement their Local Control Accountability Program.

After being an Assistant Principal at McKinleyville Middle for three years and a Principal at Morris Elementary for seven years, he says, he wanted the opportunity to expand to a K through 12thgrade environment.

In addition, his children will be going through Eureka schools, which was personal factor in his decision.

"The opportunities that I have had here at McKinleyville, I think have put me in a good place to move into this position. I think it will be a good smooth transition. The breadth of experience that I've had as a Superintendent and as the other positions I've had, I think it will position myself to be a team player. I understand the needs at the classroom level, at the school-side level and at the district level,“ said Superintendent of McKinleyville Union School District, Michael Davies-Hughes.

Davies-Hughes will continue as Superintendent through June 30th. The McKinleyville Union School District Board is currently seeking a replacement.
