McKinleyville teachers to meet with mediator to negotiate agreement
MCKINLEYVILLE- A mediator will step in on Thursday to help teachers and staff at McKinleyville Union School District negotiate the terms of their salary increase. Teachers have been asking for a pay increase for the past year and have not received a raise for six years.
The teachers association is asking for a five percent salary increase to deal with the increased cost of living. The school district has offered the teachers a two percent pay increase.
Jennifer Nichols, a teacher at Morris Language Immersion School, said the mediator is the next step toward both sides coming to an agreement. "I think it's a good step," said Nichols.
The teachers and district staff will meet with the mediator Thursday afternoon.
