Medical marijuana dispensaries permanently banned from Blue Lake
BLUE LAKE- The Blue Lake City Council voted unanimously to permanently ban medical marijuana dispensaries within city limits.
Under the passed ordinance medical marijuana 215 card holders can continue to grow the plant in their homes for medicinal purposes, but will have to travel out of town to buy from a dispensary.
The council moved forward with the ordinance after the city attorney encouraged them to pass the prohibition. The ban can limit the city's liabilities if federal authorities crack down on sales of marijuana within the state.
Another ordinance would have to be passed by the council in order to reduce the decision. Blue Lake Mayor Sherman Schapiro said the ordinance, unlike moratoriums, will not be reconsidered after a certain amount of time has passed by.
