ORLEANS- A 16 year old Orleans boy reported missing Monday after being dropped off at a local trail has been found safe. The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office with the help of a CHP helicopter began a search for the boy around six Tuesday morning after his mother reported him missing.
According to her report, she had dropped her son off at the Bluff Creek Trail head on Highway 96 between Weitchpec and Orleans Sunday morning. The boy was supposed to meet a friend for an overnight hiking and camping trip. The friend canceled and when the mother went to locate her son, she couldn't find him.
The boy was found uninjured at the entrance of the trail head around 11:45 Tuesday morning. He told search and rescue crews that it was a miscommunication between him and his mother and that he was never missing.
