EUREKA- The Eureka man killed after being struck by a vehicle on Broadway has been identified as 72-year-old Oudom Douangdoa.
Just before 6:20 p.m. on Friday, a white Ford van was traveling north on Broadway past McCullens Avenue and hit Douangdoa, who was crossing the street. He later died of his injuries at the hospital. Police say it appears Douangdoa may have not been in the crosswalk when the incident occurred. The two occupants of the van were not hurt. Police say drugs or alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision at this time.
"We're waiting for the lab and toxicology results to come back for not only the pedestrian, but also, the individuals, the occupants of the vehicle, as well as collecting and analyzing the evidence that was found at the scene. When those results come in, then obviously, they'll weigh into the overall investigation and the investigators' determination of who is at fault, if anyone, in this tragic collision," said Captain Steve Watson with the Eureka Police Department.
If you witnessed this accident, you are asked to call Officer Dave Chapman with the Eureka Police Department at (707) 441-4036.
