Faculty and staff at College of the Redwoods are still unpacking boxes at their new location on D Street in Eureka. The Professional Development Center is replacing the old downtown location on 6th and K Street.
Classes at this location are different than the main location because they are designed for students who don't want to earn a full two year degree.
"These are primarily classes that are non credit or not for credit classes. A lot of the business classes here are short term," said Paul DeMark, Director of Marketing and Communications at College of the Redwoods.
The location offers classes in basic computer skills, real estate and even art and Spanish.
Medical Assistant student Alison Ehrstrom said the program will only take her a few months to complete, and the college will help her find a job afterwards.
Ehrstrom said the downtown location is easier for her to get to since she lives in Arcata.
"When I was going to the main location it took me almost 45 minutes to get out there because I took morning classes, and here it's only a twenty minute drive," said Ehrtrom.
The building is smaller than the previous downtown location, and is located at 525 D Street.
