New changes coming to HSU's Native American Forum
Arcata - Some changes to the Native American Forum at HSU have come out of the most recent meetings between students and administration.
One concession gained in the discussion was allowing the student organization to be in charge of booking events in the forum. Native students complained that many non-native events were taking precedent in the Forum use.
Representatives are very positive about the sit downs with the administration and appreciate their willingness to go step by step looking at issues and finding solutions.
Another change is that the wording of the “thanksgiving break” will now be “winter break.” for many years, the native American community has complained about the use of thanksgiving as implying a warm and fuzzy celebration when in fact the history of it is much less so for the native population with regards to colonization. More meetings are planned.
