New efforts to improve streets near Arcata Elementary
ARCATA- Community members are voicing concerns about the walking, biking and driving conditions around Arcata Elementary School. Some residents and parents say modifications and upgrades are needed to make the area a safer place for pedestrians and drivers.
Tuesday night, city officials joined in an informal walking tour, to see those areas that need improvement. Paul Bachemia, the President of Arcata Elementary’s Parent Teacher Organization said, “some immediate concerns deserve some addressing and that's the highlighted demarcations of crosswalks immediately to and from the school property, and vehicular signage so cars can understand the safety precautions that are necessary for pedestrians coming to and from school.”
While funding is still needed, the topic will be discussed at a meeting April 16th.
