New scholarship in honor of two long-time PTA members
EUREKA- The PTA for Humboldt and Del Norte counties has introduced a new scholarship that highlights the importance of art among students.
"It increases academic achievement, but also, just for the beauty of art itself. It also provides a great opportunity for families to interact together, parents and kids can do art projects together and our District PTA encourages that," said Judy Anderson, the Training Coordinator and a Board Member for the 22nd District PTA.
The Lisa Mielke-Heidi Davis PTA Art Scholarship was announced at the annual end of the year celebration for the 22nd District PTA members on Tuesday night. The $500 scholarship will go to a Eureka High School graduating senior who is continuing their education in art. Among Mielke and Davis’ contributions to local schools, Mielke has worked to have students’ art pieces displayed at Arts Alive and Davis established Family Art Nights at local schools.
"I know they're working on next year's plans as we speak so we're really pleased to be able to not only honor them, but to be able to provide that $500 to a graduating senior," Anderson said.
The recipient of the scholarship will be announced at Honors Night on June 4th at the Eureka High School Auditorium.
