New tablets introduced in two Fortuna middle schools
Two Fortuna middle schools are taking learning to the next level…with brand new tablets.
Toddy Thomas and Fortuna Middle School are the first in the area to get this new technology. Students, grades five through eight, received a tablet Friday that they will use in the classroom and get to take home for homework. Students will be able to access their textbooks online, though the tablet will not replace books. This will also allow more one-on-one interaction between teachers and students.
Funding came from the school’s title one money and local community contributions and the tablets were well received on their first day at the schools.
“This is a super opportunity to go one to one in our county and certainly we’d love to see other school districts have the same opportunity” Cathy Sinnen, a 7th and 8th grade math teacher at Toddy Thomas, said.
“I think everybody’s excited. Lots of kids are like ‘oh my tablet’ because not all kids have them, like an electronic to use, so it’s a good tool for at school” Katie Hurst, an 8th grader at Toddy Thomas, said.
Do you think a help line for services in Humboldt County will make an impact in the homeless community?
