Newest Eureka City Council members attend series of workshops in Sacramento
SACRAMENTO- Eureka’s newest city council members are learning about what goes into the position at the annual League of California Cities New Mayors and Council Members Academy.
Council members Kim Bergel and Natalie Arroyo are attending the academy in Sacramento, along with Eureka City Manager Greg Sparks. The three day program wraps up on Friday and covers the basics of being a council member. Topics include financial responsibility, land use planning policies and using social media as a tool to reach out to the public. Council members are also learning about the best practices for interacting with city managers and the legal obligations that come with the position. Four hundred and forty people are attending the academy.
