North Coast residents share how much they use Facebook
Facebook has released a study on its popularity in the United States.
The social media website reports there are almost 130 million Facebook users in the nation, or roughly 40 percent of the country’s population. Facebook’s new study reports the average American now spends 40 minutes a day on the website. The study indicates that that is more time than most Americans spend caring for their pets. When News Channel 3 asked North Coast residents how much time they spend on the social media giant, the responses were mixed.
"I'd say I spend about 45 minutes a day on Facebook online. I do most of it through my phone. I have a smart phone, so a lot of it, I do on the go. I'm from the Midwest, so I like to keep up with family and friends from back there, pictures and posts to know how they're doing and I keep them updated on how I'm doing out here," said Eureka resident Amber Zastrow.
"I check in on Facebook maybe a couple of times a week for maybe about 10 minutes at a time and it's really just to see updates from my family members who don't live in the area as well," said Meri Scolari, who is also a Eureka resident.
"I do it for about five minutes just to check it, but I do it probably 10 times a day almost. I check it throughout the day, every couple of hours," said Eureka resident Blake Reagan.
"About maybe 10 minutes and I just go on to see what my friends have been up to and maybe sometimes read some articles that they post, and that's about it," said Sarah Elie, who lives in McKinleyville.
All of these residents say they think the average American spends more than 40 minutes per day on Facebook.
