The North Coast says farewell to Don Clausen
FORTUNA - A ten-term congressman was eulogized today in Fortuna celebrating a long-time career in public service.
Friends, family, colleagues and admirers said their final goodbyes to Don Clausen, a champion for the north coast. Colleagues said Clausen was all about duty, honor and country.
A five sport star at Ferndale High, he even was the drum major for the school band and could twirl a mean baton. He served under six presidents; from Kennedy to Reagan during his ten terms in congress. He lived by the axiom: It’s amazing what good things can happen when you don’t care who gets the credit. His love for the North Coast was second to none. Among a whole host of accomplishments, he felt his greatest achievement was helping make the Lady Bird Johnson Grove a part of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park.
Rest in peace…Don Clausen.
