Obamacare versus Medicare
NORTH COAST- Following the recent discussions about Obamacare, many North Coast seniors are left confused and worried about the impacts it will have on their current Medicare health coverage. The Area 1 Agency on Aging said the Affordable Care Act has no impact on the current open enrollment process for Medicare Part D, prescription drug plans. They said with the upcoming enrollment period for Medicare Part D ending on Dec. 7, many seniors are left wondering if they should sign up for coverage through the Affordable Care Act.
Executive Director for the agency, Maggie Kraft, said seniors who are covered by Medicare already have health insurance and do not need to sign up for the Affordable Care Act, "Seniors are confusing us with Covered California, we do not provide information about the Affordable Care Act nor do we sign anyone up."
Kraft said what seniors need to focus on is the open enrollment period for Medicare Part D. During this time she suggests to review your current Medicare Part D coverage to be sure it still meets their needs. Seniors are encouraged to go to Medicare.gov or call Medicare directly at 1-800-MEDICARE.
