One in court for Arcata stabbing death; Two out of jail
EUREKA- Two of the three suspects in the Arcata stabbing death of a 50 year-old-man have been released from jail. Nicholas Benjamin Stoiber and Sophie Buttercup Rocheleau have been released and are charged with Assault with intent to do great bodily harm by the District Attorney's office.
Stoiber was released Thursday under supervised release and appeared in court the same day with friends and short hair. Rocheleau is out on bond after being released from jail on Dec. 7. Both were arrested by the Arcata Police Department after coming in for questioning on Dec. 4. The trio is set to appear in court on Dec.19 for the preliminary hearing.
Juan Ferrer is still in custody for allegedly stabbing Douglas Allen Anderson-Jordet in the heart on Nov. 25. All three were arrested and originally charged for the Homicide by Arcata Police, however, the District Attorney's office is only charging Ferrer for the Homicide. Deputy District Attorney Elan Firpo said it is believed Anderson-Jordet died from being stabbed and was alive while Stoiber and Rocheleau were allegedly kicking him.
Anderson-Jordet was found unresponsive by police at 1:25 a.m. on the ground at the intersection of 12th and H Street. He was transported to Mad River Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy showed Anderson-Jordet had died from a single stab wound to the heart.
Arcata Police were able to identify the three arrested in video surveillance from a business walking near the Arcata Plaza close to the time of Anderson-Jordet's death. A tip came into police that someone had heard a fight with multiple people involved. It is believed by police that a fight broke out between the three arrested and the 50 year-old that eventually led to a stabbing.
