Pedestrian killed Sunday morning in hit and run collision on Highway 101
A man is dead after being hit by a truck this morning while walking along Highway 101 near Sunset Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol said Gaurav Mehta was driving a 2011 Toyota Tundra northbound when he struck the pedestrian. Officers said Mehta fled the scene in his vehicle, but stopped just after the SR-299 on-ramp because his car became disabled due to the damage. Mehta allegedly abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. He was found in a nearby hotel and was arrested for felony hit and run and driving under the influence.
The man died on scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of next kin.
CHP is still investigating the crash.
