ORICK- Smoke and fire activity will be seen this fall on the Bald Hills east of Orick. Redwood National and State Parks will be conducting a series of prescribed burns.
The parks Management Plan calls for these types of burns to manage exotic plants and to restore natural resources.
The burns have taken place since the early 1980s and mirror local tribe's intentional burns that have been conducted for thousands of years.
Officials say the burns help to provide hunting and grazing land for elk, reduce the amount of parasites like ticks and flees and help eliminate invasive plants.
It is likely that more equipment will be in the area and that some traffic control will be in place.
