FORTUNA - Fortuna schools are teaming up with the Volunteer Fire Department to show their support for the Main Street businesses lost in last week’s fire.
"We have originally done a fundraiser, that we were doing for our own local PTA to sell pizzas, that was originally intended for the Super Bowl. But due to the fires last week, we changed the focus and thought we would extend the date and try to include all the schools in Fortuna. To make this a big community effort, to try and get as much support as we could for the local businesses that were burned down last week," said South Fortuna Elementary Principal, Jeff Northern.
It's being called Pizza for a Purpose, with 50 percent of the proceeds going to businesses affected by the fire. Fortuna Elementary has taken the lead role in the campaign and will purchase materials and create all the pizzas ordered, themselves. Preparation and pickup will be held at the Fortuna Fire Hall, Friday the 13th and volunteers are welcome.
"This is our community and what's really important is that, everybody can do something and lend a hand and it just makes the load a lot easier," said Fortuna Elementary Teacher and PTA president, Angela Johnson.
Purchase orders will continue through February 10th.
