Arcata Police have only had to hand out a handful situations for smoking in the downtown area, which has been prohibited since July. Arcata's Chief of Police briefed the Arcata City Council about how police are doing enforcing the ordinance.

Police were only giving out warnings for the first month of the ordinance. The ordinance was adopted in June and went into effect in July.

Smoking is prohibited in the downtown area, 7th to 11th Street and J Street to Hwy 101.
