Police investigating suspicious fire at Sequoia Park in Eureka
EUREKA- Officials with Humboldt Bay Fire are looking into a suspicious fire that occurred at Sequoia Park on Tuesday morning.
Humboldt Bay Fire responded to the park at about 8 a.m. on Tuesday. When crews arrived, they found a small fire outside the cooking facility next to the playground, and were able to extinguish it in five minutes. The fire caused damage to the door of the facility. Officials with Humboldt Bay Fire explain why they ruled the fire suspicious.
"Before we can call a fire suspicious or ultimately conclude that it's arson, we have to rule out all accidental sources of fire. And really, in the location where this fire started, there was really just no reason for it to have ignited unless somebody provided the ignition source and the fuel for the fire," said Battalion Chief Chris Jelinek with Humboldt Bay Fire.
If you have any information, you are asked to call the Eureka Police Department at (707) 441-4060.
